Professional Athletes Use Kangen Water.
Ask any athlete what their top priorities are for performance and recovery and hydration will be top of the list for any one of them, guaranteed. Proper hydration is the differentiating factor between a winning performance and a subpar performance. It’s also often the difference between a great post-workout recovery and one that leads to aches, soreness, or even injury. As more athletes focus on their diet and adopt alternative health and recovery practices, more of them are also looking toward their water and what exactly they are putting in their body.

Why, might you ask? Well, to put it simply? It’s better hydration. From personal experience, my post-workout recovery improved immensely when I began drinking 9.5 Kangen water regularly. I no longer experienced muscle cramps, spasms, aches or pains in my joints or bones, and my energy and stamina improved notably over time. I was also sleeping better because I wasn’t getting up three or four times through the night to use the restroom, which positively impacted my performance and my recovery.

Other sources also note that Kangen water provides natural electrolytes, antioxidants, and the important health benefits of hydrogen-right water, all of which can help boost performance and recovery [1]. Wade Lightheart, a 3-time Canadian Natural Bodybuilding Champion wrote a book about his experiences using Kangen water. He says, “within days of drinking the water, he lost a significant amount of body fat and was able to train more than double his peak volume levels with no pain, no fatigue and no inflammation [2].” Aside from the celebrity and pro-athlete endorsements, science is also beginning to shine more of a light on the benefits of drinking hydrogen-rich water on performance and athletics.
Other studies have also shown that ERW has anaerobic and endurance benefits as well: This study concluded that drinking alkalized water enhanced hydration, improved acid-base balance, and anaerobic exercise performance. Another noted that drinking hydrogen-rich water just before exercise exhibited anti-fatigue and endurance effects, meaning that it reduced the rate at which performance athletes became exerted or tired during their athletic activities. This study specifically focused on the utilization of hydrogen-rich water in performance improvements on cyclists and found that a 7-day intake of HRW would be an effective strategy for improving anaerobic performance in trained cyclists.
During a recent interview, professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau––currently ranked 7th in the world––explained how drinking Kangen water has improved his performance and overall health. "I just got this new water machine—a Kangen water machine—that’s a game changer," said DeChambeau. "You can change the pH level from your faucet. Basically, water comes into your house, and you can change the pH from 9.5 all the way to 2.5. It's used for different reasons, but typically a lot of the foods that we have nowadays are super acidic in nature, especially in the American diet, and drinking your water at a certain pH can help balance that out. When I started drinking my water with a pH of 9.5, I immediately had more energy. It’s a different feeling. It's the purest water I've ever had in my entire life. I can actually put pH strips in there to check the pH levels, so I can test it before I even drink it [1]." Though, an edit to Bryson’s comment: the Kangen water machine produces water from a 2.5 level pH to an 11.5 level pH.
Is it really that much better?
I can’t speak for any of these people, but I can share my personal use of the water and my experiences. When I first purchased my machine, I had been doing CrossFit for well over a year. My endurance and stamina, flexibility and overall strength had already markedly improved since starting CrossFit, but I noticed even further improvements immediately after I started drinking Kangen water. The more remarkable thing? I wasn’t attending classes or workouts nearly as much as I had been before I started drinking the water, but I found that I wasn’t losing any of my progress; I was still gaining progress, even.
No longer was I up multiple times throughout the night to use the restroom because of my terrible habit of downing ridiculous quantities of water within the few hours before bed. No longer was I falling asleep mid-day, regardless of what I was going or where I was. I had better digestion, which meant that I was able to perform more efficiently during my workouts and I had significantly less muscle aches or soreness after, which meant I recovered infinitely faster. Gone were the days of icing my quads after a particularly rough leg day or being unable to lift my arms after a tumultuous upper body workout.
I used to believe that this level of soreness meant that I had a great workout, but I came to understand that it was really my body telling me that I wasn’t properly hydrated and that I was severely lacking in not only proper hydration but proper electrolyte replenishment.
Now, I drink it daily because it helps keep me hydrated, helps me manage my busy schedule, and helps me stay active without feeling as though my body will feel sore or achy the following days or weeks. As I am getting older, I am better able to do the things that I want to do without having to worry as much about injury.
Kangen water had massive impacts on my activity and fitness, and I believe that is why so many athletes have begun to use it for their own training purposes.
